Brazil’s biggest festivity, often considered “The Greatest Show on Earth,” is Rio Carnival. This stunning kaleidoscope of colour takes place every year before Lent and dates all the way back to the 17th century. Today, the experience is unforgettable, with colourful floats and samba dancers in vivid costumes making their way through the city in a beautiful spectacle of Latin culture. While the city is always alive, Carnival is a time when it becomes even more animated.

Perhaps one of the most defining elements of Rio is the Christ the Redeemer statue. The 98-feet high figure sits on the peak of Corcovado Mountain and can be reached by a rack railway which weaves through forests and steep mountainous scenery. For an alternate view of the Redeemer, head up to Sugarloaf Mountain on a scenic cable car ride. This journey will grant you 360-degrees of Rio. The mountain rises to 1,299 feet, meaning you will be rewarded with a look at the busy Guanabara Bay and the dynamic cityscapes below.
