No holiday to Argentina is complete without a visit Iguazú Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world. Don’t miss the Devil’s Throat – undoubtedly one of the most dramatic sections of the falls - where the deafening cascade plunges in to the depths below.
Far to the south, on the Patagonian coast, you can encounter southern right whales, elephant seals and Magellan penguins at incredibly close quarters at UNESCO World Heritage-designated Peninsula Valdés. Inland, close to the border with southern Chile, you’ll find the vast Perito Moreno Glacier and Los Glaciares National Park. The second largest country in South America, Argentina has a diverse landscape and plenty to see and do. The UNESCO World Heritage-designated natural wonders of Peninsula Valdés and the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, and Iguazú Falls in the north of the country are justifiably renowned as being among the most memorable sights in the world. Whatever your tastes, Argentina will not disappoint.
Be sure to add at least one of the below to your list of things to do on your holiday in Argentina.
Steak, and meat generally, is hugely popular in Argentina, making beef the national food in all but name. Wherever you go, you’ll find plenty of dishes containing meat, prepared in various ways. And if you’re a real meat lover, be sure to try asado – a slow-roasted barbecue of various cuts of simply seasoned beef, pork or chicken.
Argentina is one of the world's largest producers of wine, with fine examples produced in the Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja regions. Argentinian beer is less well known around the world, but you can still find local craft brews to try in addition to the country's most popular beer - Quilmes.
And, if you have a sweet tooth, be sure to try alfajores, a soft, shortbread-like cookie filled with dulce de leche (which you'll also find used in icing on cakes, spread on toast and as an ice-cream flavour or topping).
