Central European escapes offer a number of city breaks, including the likes of Vienna, Budapest, and Berlin, but several lesser-known cities are well worth visiting, including Ljubljana, Krakow, and Innsbruck.
For a relatively small landmass, Central Europe certainly has managed to pack in centuries of history, culture, language, art, and upheaval. The focal point of this lovely part of the world includes the alps, which cross 750 miles. Dotted across this region are a number of charming villages and quaint towns, including Oberammergau in Germany and Innsbruck in Austria. In Poland, the alps continue eastward, forming the Carpathian Mountains, the second-highest mountain chain in Europe.
Another highlight of a Central Europe holiday is exploring the lesser-known gems like Slovenia, where Lake Bled is a radiant blue-green dot on the landscape and the Baroque buildings of Ljubljana. Hungary is also another emerging tourist destination, offering travellers plenty of opportunities to see Gothic architecture and try unique regional dishes like goulash and spicy paprika sausages.
